Roma's Francesco Totti: I feel better at 40 than I did when I was 25

Francesco Totti says he feels better now than when he was 25 after registering three assists in Roma's 4-0 win over Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League on Thursday.

Totti, who turned 40 earlier this week, produced an influential 90-minute performance at the Stadio Olimpico for the Giallorossi as they picked up their first win in the competition this season.

"In the first half, I joked with the physiotherapist, saying: 'Wow, I didn't feel so good even when I was 25.' But it's true, I'm feeling fine physically and fine in the legs," Totti told Sky Sport Italia. "I can cope pretty well with 90 minutes."

It was only Totti's second 90 minutes of the season, and like the first in Serie A against Crotone, Roma secured a 4-0 win.

Thursday's result also came less than 48 hours after he and the rest of the Roma team had been given a day off to celebrate his 40th birthday.

"I was still wearing my suit from my birthday because it was made to measure so it was difficult to take off," Totti said. "Joking aside, that's in the past now. It was important tonight to show to everybody what a team we are. We've given a good answer and we hope it continues this way."

Totti won Sky Sport Italia's Man of the Match award with over 90 percent of the vote.

"They were probably all at my party," he said of the voters. "It's nice, though -- it means I played a good game, but getting a good result was what mattered and we succeeded in every way today. I said we had to play well and win, and I think we did that tonight. That's what the fans want and that's what the coach wants."
