Roma's Luciano Spalletti disappointed with Mohamed Salah, Edin Dzeko

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti says he expects more from Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko after his side were beaten 1-0 by Fiorentina on Sunday.

The Giallorossi's first Serie A defeat of the season saw them miss an opportunity to take full advantage of Juventus' loss to Inter Milan and move to the top of the table, with Spalletti pointing the finger at two of his attacking players.

"We don't have to make huge improvements, but I do expect a player like Salah to beat his man a few times, then when you get the ball in the area, you do have to score sometimes," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"Dzeko? He is lacking a bit of ferocity at times and he needs to be angrier when he gets into certain situations and if he does that, he will score more goals. Dzeko's a physically strong player, but when he goes into situations of physical contact, the sum of his qualities drops."

Spalletti was, nevertheless, content with his side's performance on the whole.

"This defeat hurts because we deserved more than we got," Spalletti told Roma's official website. "Things didn't go our way today. We have to accept the result but be satisfied with our performance. My players did their duty.

"It was a good match between two good sides. We needed to be more clinical when we were in control of the game. We had three or four moves which we should have turned into great chances."

Milan Badelj's strike secured victory for Fiorentina, and the defender hailed the importance of the result.

"We needed this to win back the faith of the city and our fans," he is quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport. "We nullified Roma in midfield and after a so-so first half, we played much better in the second half.

"We deserved this win, even if our objectives must remain the same. We need to take things still from game to game and only if we reason like that can we obtain great results, and then we will see where we are in May."
