Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has complained that the fans do not get behind the team enough until Francesco Totti is on the field.
Giallorossi coach Luciano Spalletti said after Sunday's 3-2 win against Sampdoria -- in which Totti came off the bench to score a last-minute winner -- that the club need another "leader" as well as their captain.
Nainggolan believes he can be that player to make the step up, though he feels the Roma fans need to play their part by supporting the team from start to finish.
"I feel like a leader of this team," he is quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport. "I agree that the team in the second half of the match [against Sampdoria] looked like a different team: once Totti came on, there was a completely different enthusiasm on the part of the fans.
"I wonder why in the first half, when we were losing 2-1, all you could hear was whistles and boos. It is not easy to play with serenity and confidence in that situation -- when Totti came on we felt such a bigger push."
Meanwhile, former Roma midfielder Olivier Dacourt has said that the secret to Totti's success is that the 39-year-old "can see things before any other."
"He's always been able to do that," Dacourt is quoted as saying by gianlucadimarzio.com. "He knows how to manage himself, he's got experience and he knows exactly what to do and how to do it."
