Francesco Totti stalling over contract extension - Roma president

Roma president James Pallotta says an offer has been made to Francesco Totti to extend his contract beyond the summer, but he has yet to deliver a response.

The 39-year-old's current deal expires at the end of June and no decision has yet been taken over his future plans. It did not seem likely he would be given an extension in February, when a spat with coach Luciano Spalletti threatened to bring an end to his playing career.

Several impressive performances as a substitute later on in the season raised hope he would indeed be offered a new contract, and Pallotta has now confirmed that this has been put to him -- only it is the player who appears to be stalling.

"We made Francesco an offer more than a week ago, but it's odd that he's not accepted it because I thought he wanted to continue playing," Pallotta told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Our offer's a generous one.

"He should have signed it already, but probably he's not getting good advice from his advisors."

Totti scored four goals in the last six games of the season, despite not playing more than half an hour in any of those games.

His performances have even prompted calls for him to be called up to the Italy squad for Euro 2016, with Juventus and Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon saying he would take him to France.

"You would take him everywhere," Buffon told Tuttosport. "A player like him, with his talent, could decide a game at any moment. There are not many players around with the talent he's got. You should do everything for Totti."

Totti last played for Italy in their victorious 2006 World Cup final in Berlin.
