Real Madrid warned of Roma revival under Spalletti by Fabio Capello

Luciano Spalletti's return to Roma means the Italian side should not be underestimated by Real Madrid in the Champions League, according to Fabio Capello.

Spalletti returned to the Stadio Olimpico to take over from Frenchman Rudi Garcia in January and has led the team to wins in their last three games in all competitions.

Los Blancos fans were relatively happy when they drew Roma in the first knock-out round last December, just weeks after the Serie A side were hammered 6-1 at Barcelona in the group stages.

But Capello, a former coach at both Real Madrid and Roma, believes that the Giallorossi will pose a stiff challenge.

"Roma are a danger, you cannot think this will be an easy game," Capello told Spanish radio show El Partido de las 12. "Look at Spalletti. They have won three games, he has changed the system of play, the players have more confidence and they believe more in the coach.

"The team is much more organised, they press more up top, the win the ball back quickly. It is a different team."

Meanwhile, Roma forward Stephan El Shaarawy has credited Spalletti for bringing an end to a traumatic time in his career.

The 23-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Monaco, but just as he was approaching the number of appearances which would have obliged the Ligue 1 club to make his move from Milan permanent, he was left out in the cold.

Roma came in for him during the winter transfer window and he has scored two and set up another in his three games.

"Spalletti knows this club well and he has had a great impact here," El Shaarawy told Mediaset. "Now we need to work hard and do well against Carpi. We're close to the Champions League zone again, but there are still lots of games to be played and we need to take things game by game.

"Training is more intense here than it was at Monaco and this helps me be at my best in games. I'm getting on really well with the coach -- he knows a lot about football and he knows the city and the atmosphere here.

"We're all really happy to have him with us. We've done well, with nine points in three games, but like I've said, we must not stop now. Things change quickly in football."

El Shaarawy's arrival has coincided with a turnaround in the Giallorossi's form, with three straight wins lifting them back to within two points of third-placed Fiorentina, but the Italy international is keeping his feet on the ground.

"My life has changed this last month, but I don't want to get carried away," he added. "This is just the beginning. Of course it's been a very positive start and I'm delighted things have started off this way -- it's great for me to have scored two and set one up.

"But I need to continue along this path, which is very long. I know I still have a lot of work to do and we all need to carry on like this."
