Striker Marco Borriello determined to make big impact for Roma

Marco Borriello has vowed that he will "be a key player" for Roma when he returns from injury after the international break.

The 32-year-old former AC Milan striker has scored 18 goals in 65 appearances during his time at the club but has been kept on the sidelines for most of the season with a muscle injury, after starting the first two games on the bench.

And despite knowing that Francesco Totti, Mattia Destro, Gervinho, Juan Manuel Iturbe, Alessandro Florenzi and Adem Ljajic are ahead of him in the Roma pecking order, he dismissed speculation that he could leave during the winter transfer window.

"I've read lots of fabricated stories and heard lots of whispers and voices," Borriello wrote on Twitter. "I have only one objective and that is to be a key player with this shirt as soon as possible."

The forward spent the second half of last year on loan at West Ham United, but made only two appearances and was linked with a return to his former club Genoa during the summer.

And, with less than two months to go before the transfer window opens again, he is being linked with a move away from the Italian capital with suggestions that he could make a switch to Major League Soccer.
