Ivory Coast international Gervinho was originally contracted to Roma until 2017, but they announced on their website that a one-year extension had been reached.

"AS Roma SpA announces that an agreement with the player Yao Gervais Kouassi (Gervinho) has been signed for the extension by one season of the contract currently in force, and whose natural expiry was due to be June 30, 2017," the club's statement read. "The new agreement is of a four-year duration, with an expiry fixed at June 30, 2018."

The 27-year-old moved to the Giallorossi from the Gunners last summer for a fee of eight million euros. Prior to joining Arsenal, he had spent two seasons with Lille, working under current Roma coach Rudi Garcia and scoring 36 goals in two Ligue 1 seasons.

Capped 58 times by his country, Gervinho proved a hit in his first season in Rome, scoring nine goals in 33 appearances. He opened his account this season on the opening day of the campaign, in the 2-0 win over Fiorentina.
