Stephan El Shaarawy eager to 'restart' career at Monaco

Stephan El Shaarawy has no qualms about his loan move to Monaco becoming permanent, with the Italy international needing to "restart" his career after going stale at AC Milan.

The 23-year-old burst onto the scene with the Rossoneri after arriving in 2011, enjoying a particularly fruitful 2012-13 season at the San Siro.

However, mounting injury problems stunted El Shaarawy's progress, leading the Italy international to make a loan move to the principality in the summer.

The move to Monaco will become permanent when an appearance-related clause is triggered -- a €15 million deal the forward believes is necessary.

"It's a formality, even though it's tough to end that relationship [with Milan]," El Shaarawy told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I had some great years there despite my injuries and everything else.

"I will never forget what I did in 2012, but it was the right time to move on. I will restart here.

"I had a long injury lay-off. I couldn't do anything about it and I knew how good I was. In a certain sense, injuries have helped me grow.

"My only focus is on rediscovering my form. I want to be a star at the Euros and everything depends on my play for Monaco. I feel great."
