Monaco technical director Luis Campos resigns, takes on advisory role

AS Monaco have confirmed Luis Campos has stepped down as the club's technical director, but the man credited with helping rebuild the side will remain in the principality.

Campos, 50, handed in his resignation last week, reportedly unhappy with interference in his sphere of activity within the club, notably the reinstatement of goalkeeping coach Andre Amitrano after Campos had told him his contract would not be renewed.

Credited with the arrival of a clutch of talents such as James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and Bernardo Silva to the Stade Louis II, Campos had been expected to serve out his notice period before leaving.

However, following Monaco's crushing win over Young Boys to progress to the Champions League playoffs on Tuesday, the club issued a press release stating Campos would stay at the Stade Louis II to work alongside Vice-President Vadim Vasilyev.

"Luis Campos becomes Special Advisor to the vice-president with a role with an international emphasis, and focussed on recruitment and the detection of future talents," the statement read.

Campos, who is close to Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and super-agent Jorge Mendes, had been linked to both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona prior to being given his new role.
