Tottenham fan arrested after banana peel thrown at Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

A Tottenham fan has been arrested and charged with a public order offence after a banana peel was thrown in the direction of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the North London derby against Arsenal.

Unai Emery's men won the clash 4-2, but at one stage trailed 2-1, before a storming comeback. Aubameyang put Arsenal 1-0 ahead from the penalty spot and, while he was celebrating, a banana skin was thrown at the Gabon international's direction from the away stands. Tottenham confirmed the fan will face a ban.

"Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and the supporter in question will be issued with a ban," a Tottenham spokesman said.

Aubameyang later posted an image of the incident on Instagram and questioned why it happened.

Three other men were also charged with throwing missiles on the pitch in separate incidents, while two others were arrested and released without charge by Metropolitan police.

Aubameyang's opener had been cancelled out by Eric Dier, before Harry Kane put Spurs ahead with another penalty. However, Arsenal came back in the second half, with Aubameyang equalising, Alexandre Lacazette giving the hosts the lead and Lucas Torreira making the three points safe.

Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen was sent off late on for a second yellow card.
