LONDON -- Arsenal coach Unai Emery has told Aaron Ramsey to forget about his contract situation and focus on his performances after he was dropped for the defeat at Chelsea.
Ramsey was left on the bench for the 3-2 loss at Stamford Bridge after being taken off early in the second half of the home defeat to Manchester City.
The Wales international has entered the final year of his Arsenal deal without signing an extension.
"I spoke with him last week. I said: 'I want you focused only on training and only on the match, you show us the capacity to help the team,'" Emery, whose team face West Ham on Saturday, said.
"The contract is another thing for his agent and the club, but we want and I need his focus only on training, only on the match and on his performance each day.
"I want the player to be focused only on Saturday, so that our players give our supporters quality and energy. And so they focus only on showing our capacity to find the win."
The coach did not say whether he had been unhappy with Ramsey's performance against City, adding: "They are a different team and so the preparation is very different compared to other matches. Tactically they demand something different.
"Also, Chelsea are different to other teams. We have to work very specifically to prepare for them."
Emery also dismissed the theory that it was difficult to find room for Ramsey and Mesut Ozil in the same lineup.
"Against Manchester City they played together," he said. "They played together and they are going to play together. I don't know about Saturday, but maybe Saturday. But sure, in more matches.
"The combination between all of the players is very important so that we find the best performance. This combination for me is good, also, with Ramsey and Ozil, for finding our best performance."
The coach praised teenage midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, who arrived from Lorient in a £7 million summer deal, saying the 19-year-old's performances in the first two matches of the season had been "a very big, positive surprise."
"Two years ago we [Paris Saint-Germain, Emery's former club] played against him when he was starting to play for Lorient. Last year he was in Ligue 2, but when the club spoke with me about him, the club had worked and watched him, we agreed [to sign him]," he said.
"He is improving. He is playing and working every day with a big hunger. He wants to improve, he wants to learn every day, every match. He is doing it his way, with character and quality.
"We are very happy with him but every match is a chance to show this progress with consistency."
