Arsenal's Petr Cech in dark over starting spot following Bernd Leno arrival

Petr Cech says he still has not been told by Unai Emery whether he will be Arsenal's No. 1 goalkeeper this season.

Cech impressed in Arsenal's 1-1 draw with his former club Chelsea in Dublin on Wednesday, saving a penalty from Alvaro Morata during the game and another in the ensuing shootout that the Gunners won, but he remains locked in a battle with newcomer Bernd Leno for the No. 1 spot.

"No, no [I have received no assurances]," Cech told reporters. "We still have [preseason] games to play. Obviously for every player you do your best, then the manager has his choice to make."

Arsenal have one more preseason game left against Lazio in Stockholm on Saturday, with new signings Lucas Torreira and Stephan Lichtsteiner in line to make their debuts.

Granit Xhaka and Nacho Monreal could also see their first game time of the summer after joining up with the squad this week following the World Cup.

They then open their Premier League season against Manchester City the following Sunday and Cech thinks they are well prepared for the new campaign.

"Step by step we are getting there," he said. "It's always tricky for everybody when you have players coming later and then you have to catch up. We have some players missing but we are in a good place.

"A week and a half to prepare for the first game of the season is to our advantage. We are set up a different way, playing a different way from the back. Every manager is different. We work on that during the preseason and we are improving with every game."
