Arsenal can build on performance in Chelsea draw - Shkodran Mustafi

Shkodran Mustafi has said Arsenal can use their performance in Sunday's 0-0 draw at Chelsea as a blueprint to build on.

Arsenal earned their first point at Stamford Bridge since 2011 with a draw that came as a big step forward following their 4-0 demolition at Liverpool last month.

Mustafi thought he had scored a second-half winner with a header from a free kick, but was flagged offside.

And he told the official Arsenal website: "We are a team that are willing to learn. I think that we have to try and build from something and I think we can build from this performance.

"We were really well organised when we didn't have the ball. When we had the ball, we played some brilliant one-touch football.

"We played against the champions of last season and, if you play like this, I think you'll get a lot of points."

The centre-back revealed that he had mistaken Sead Kolasinac for a Chelsea player when lining up ahead of the free kick, believing he was onside when he began his run towards goal.

"I saw someone behind me, so I thought I wasn't offside. I knew I started a bit early, but I know as a defender it's hard to stay in one line, so you get some going early, some a bit later," he said.

"I thought if I start a split-second early, I might get this advantage. I got it, but unfortunately the man behind me was Sead and no one from the Chelsea team.

"I was really unhappy with that, but it was offside."
