Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger can sometimes be too nice - Silvestre

SINGAPORE -- Former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has said manager Arsene Wenger can be "too nice" but remains still the right man for the job.

After months of speculation about his future, Wenger signed a new two-year contract at the Emirates Stadium last month despite failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in two decades.

Silvestre, speaking in Singapore at the launch of November's Singapore Masters, told reporters: "Arsene's nice -- but sometimes too nice, in my opinion.

"A lot of stuff has been said about whether he should stay or go, from the critics to the press to ex-players.

"I think if he shows the same aggression to the players in the dressing room, he'll be able to push them to win some trophies."

He said Wenger should be praised "for achieving many good things in his two decades" at the club and predicted that he would act decisively to strengthen his squad.

"It's a good signal that Arsene wants to sign [Kylian] Mbappe," he said. "He's showing that he wants it, although there's a lot of competition for this young and promising talent.

"He's got to keep the core of the team if you he want to win trophies and strengthen some areas."

Silvestre will play for Arsenal Masters against Liverpool Masters at Singapore National Stadium on Nov. 11.
