Arsenal's Emirates Cup set for this summer with Benfica, Sevilla, Leipzig

Arsenal have announced that the Emirates Cup will return this summer, with Benfica, Sevilla and RB Leipzig the teams involved in the preseason tournament.

The annual event was cancelled last summer due to Euro 2016 and reconstruction work on the Emirates Stadium pitch, but is back for 2017, taking place across the weekend of July 29 and 30.

The ninth staging of the Emirates Cup will see Leipzig take on Sevilla at 2 p.m. BST on the opening day, with Arsenal then facing Benfica at 4:20 p.m. BST, while the following day sees Leipzig play Benfica at 2 p.m. BST, before Arsenal then meet Sevilla at 4:20 p.m. BST.

"We're all delighted to once again be hosting the Emirates Cup this summer," Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis told the club's official website. "Every year we have staged the competition, the Emirates Cup has been hugely successful and a thoroughly enjoyable weekend of football.

"Benfica, Sevilla and Leipzig are three strong clubs, with good players, who will not only hopefully produce some exciting football, but also provide us with high quality preparation ahead of the new season."

The Emirates Cup was launched in 2007 and has featured teams including Real Madrid, Juventus and Boca Juniors, with Arsenal winning the last edition in 2015.

Arsenal's two games this summer are the latest to be added to their preseason schedule, with the club already due to face Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia, as well as Bayern Munich and Chelsea in China.
