Arsene Wenger 'is Arsenal' and would be hard to replace - Lukas Podolski

Germany legend Lukas Podolski has said Arsene Wenger "is Arsenal" when asked about the managerial situation at one of his former clubs.

Podolski, who marked his 130th and final Germany appearance with a stunning winner against England on Wednesday, played under Wenger during a three-year spell at Arsenal before joining Galatasaray in 2015.

And the 31-year-old said he believed Wenger, whose future in North London has yet to be confirmed, would be a hard act to follow if he chose to depart.

He told Sky Sports: "I follow nearly every match and I don't know what's happened.

"Arsene Wenger is a good guy and a good coach. He built this club from nothing to now, and it will be interesting what happens in the next months."

Asked whether he thought Wenger should stay, Podolski added: "I don't know who the guy is that can replace him. He is Arsenal."

Earlier this week, Wenger denied a report that he has been offered a two-year deal to take over at Paris Saint-Germain.

The manager is out of contract after this season and has yet to announce whether he is staying on or stepping down.

But he told beIN SPORTS there was nothing to the PSG link, saying: "It is a false rumour. That is what you call fake news.

"I formally deny it. It is not true."
