Aaron Ramsey: Arsenal players have let Arsene Wenger down at times

Aaron Ramsey says Arsenal's players have let manager Arsene Wenger down "at times" this season and insisted that the criticism directed at the long-serving manager is unfair.

Wenger has come under increasing pressure following Arsenal's big losses to Chelsea and Bayern Munich in February which seemingly ended their hopes of winning the Premier League or Champions League this season.

But Ramsey defended the 67-year-old, whose future is uncertain as his contract expires this season.

"He's been a great servant to Arsenal. He's been a great manager to me personally and for the players," Ramsey told talkSPORT. "We have let him down at times. I think it's unfair, some of the things that have been said. People are entitled to their opinion, but he's been great for me personally."

Wenger signed Ramsey as an 18-year-old from Cardiff in 2008. The Wales international midfielder has struggled to make an impact this season because of injuries, but could be in line for a return from a calf problem against Liverpool on Saturday.

And while Arsenal find themselves 13 points behind leaders Chelsea with a game in hand, Ramsey said the title race isn't over yet.

"There's still a lot of football to be played. Stranger things have happened in football before," he added. "Chelsea have quite a gap at the moment. But it only takes a couple of games and everyone is right back in it again. We have to get back to winning ways, compete again and go on a bit of a run."
