Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud set for return in EFL Cup tie vs. Reading

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said striker Olivier Giroud should be back for Tuesday's EFL Cup game against Reading, but most of his regular starters will be rested.

Giroud has struggled to recover from a toe injury suffered at Paris Saint-German in the Champions League last month but is expected to be in the squad against the Championship's Royals.

Although Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey are still out, defender Carl Jenkinson will make his first Arsenal appearance in more than two years.

"I think Olivier will be included, but for Aaron it is too early although he is back in full training now," Wenger told the official Arsenal website.

"Jenkinson will be back and will play."

Ramsey has not played since injuring his hamstring on the opening day of the season, while Jenkinson had been sidelined since tearing knee ligaments in January while on loan at West Ham.

Cazorla, meanwhile, has not recovered from a kick to his Achilles tendon in Wednesday's Champions League win over Ludogorets.

Wenger said he intended to play a similar team to the one that beat Nottingham Forest in the previous round, when most of his first-choice players were not included.

That means players including Gabriel Paulista, Rob Holding, Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lucaz Perez and Jeff Reine-Adelaide are all likely to start, with several academy players expected to be on the bench.
