Arsenal fans urge season ticket action to prevent empty seats at Emirates

An Arsenal supporters' group has urged the club to consider rescinding the season tickets of holders who regularly fail to attend home games.

Empty seats became a big issue at the Emirates towards the end of last season, with thousands of fans staying away as Arsenal's Premier League title challenge crumbled.

And although attendances have been much better this season, some empty seats can still be seen despite all matches officially being sold out.

The Arsenal Supporters Trust (AST) will raise the issue at Monday's Annual General Meeting, saying "the need for a home credit system is paramount."

The AST is concerned that the empty seats are affecting the atmosphere and wants season tickets that are rarely get used to be made available to other fans.

Supporters on the waiting list for a season ticket often have to wait years, and AST spokesman Tim Payton told the Telegraph: "It's disappointing to see so many empty seats at 'sold out' matches when the demand is clearly there.

"If someone is only using the ticket a few times a year then they should be warned and, after that, they should lose their priority for the next season.

"It is a win-win to get this sorted. More people on a matchday means new fans and extra revenue in other areas but, crucially, it would also improve the atmosphere and benefit the team."
