Arsene Wenger will leave Arsenal when he wins the title - Robert Pires

Robert Pires has told L'Equipe he thinks Arsene Wenger will remain Arsenal manager until he lifts the Premier League title again.

Pires, 42, spent six years working under his compatriot, between 2000 and 2006, winning the Premier League title twice, including the 2003-04 "Invincibles" season in which the Gunners did not lose a single game.

And the French World Cup-winner, who is an Arsenal ambassador and still trains with the first team every morning, believes his mentor will continue until he picks up the fourth English crown of his tenure.

"It's then that I imagine him saying, 'I'm leaving,'" Pires said. "Each start of the season his number one goal is to win the Premier League.

"Actually, the only time I have seen him really emotional was when we were champions of England in 2004. At the moment he lifted the trophy, I saw him touched, caught up with emotion.

"It's the year when we finished champions without losing a game. I don't know if he'll say it one day, but I think it is his proudest moment."

Appointed on Sept. 30, 1996, as Bruce Rioch's successor, Wenger has given no hint he is ready to stand down, despite being out of contract at the end of the current campaign and speculation linking him with the England job.
