Wenger dismisses England talk, 'completely focused' on Arsenal

LONDON -- Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed renewed speculation linking him with the England job after Sam Allardyce's departure and said he his fully focused on the Gunners until the end of the season.

Wenger, in the final year of his contract, had already been mentioned as a possible successor to Roy Hodgson this summer before Allardyce got the job.

Now, after Allardyce's rapid downfall in wake of an undercover investigation by the Daily Telegraph, there is fresh talk that the Football Association could seek out Wenger next summer.

But the Frenchman said: "My priority has always been this club, and until the end of this season I'm here and I'm completely focused on that."

He said his future after that was "not decided" and added: "I've said many times my priority was always Arsenal Football Club, and I have to assess how well I do until the end of the season."

Gareth Southgate will take over England on a temporary basis, and Wenger said he was stunned by events.

"It's a huge surprise what has happened. Who would have predicted that 48 hours ago? Nobody," he said. "But the English game is always full of surprises."
