Arsenal's Gabriel Paulista, Mathieu Debuchy may return at Forest

Arsenal defenders Gabriel Paulista and Mathieu Debuchy could return for Tuesday's EFL Cup game at Nottingham Forest.

Neither Gabriel nor Debuchy has played this season because of injuries, but both were in full training on Monday ahead of the trip to Nottingham.

Gabriel injured his ankle in the final preseason game but has been back in training since Friday, and manager Arsene Wenger told the official Arsenal website that he "has a chance to play against Forest."

Debuchy went on loan to Bordeaux in January after losing his starting place to Hector Bellerin, but although he returned to training on Monday it remains to be seen whether Wenger thinks he is fit enough to play after calf problems.

With a home Premier League game against Chelsea on Saturday, Wenger is expected to give his backups and some academy players the chance to impress at Forest, with Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Petr Cech and Laurent Koscielny all set to stay in London.

Wenger said striker Olivier Giroud would miss a second straight game with a toe injury, while Ramsey is still not ready to return from the hamstring problem that has kept him out since the first game of the season.

"He is still out. I don't think he will be ready for the weekend either," Wenger said. "Giroud is [also] still not available. We will see at the end of the week if he can join in [ahead of the Chelsea match]."

Gabriel could partner 20-year-old Rob Holding in central defence at the City Ground, with teenager Krystian Bielik another option. Striker Lucas Perez and midfielder Granit Xhaka could also start.
