Arsenal defender Skhodran Mustafi excited to play in Premier League

New Arsenal defender Skhodran Mustafi says he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premier League after completing his £35 million move from Valencia late on Tuesday.

Mustafi, 24, became the third major signing for Arsene Wenger this summer -- after Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez -- and will join up with his new teammates after the international break, when he could be an option in Arsenal's next Premier League match against Southampton on Sept. 10.

The Germany defender, a member of the 2014 World Cup winning squad as well as the 2016 European Championship squad, has rejoined his national team as they prepare for their first 2018 World Cup qualifier in Norway on Sunday and the friendly with Finland this Wednesday.

"It shows the trust and appreciation of Arsenal," he told German news wire SID. "And also the expectations they have in me. But that's why I am here, I am looking forward to the challenge of the Premier League."

Mustafi will become the third reigning World Cup winner to ply his trade at the Emirates as he will join his 2014 Germany teammates Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil -- the Gunners also had Lukas Podolski on their books before he joined Galatasaray.

"I will give it my all to justify the German World Cup winner tradition at Arsenal which was started by Lukas Podolski," Mustafi said.

"I will give it my all to be a good replacement for [the injured] Per, and we'll complement each other well after that.

"It's super that I already know a few players like Mesut, Per or Granit [Xhaka]. It makes the start easier. But I get along well and don't necessarily have to speak German here in London."
