David Seaman wants Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger 'to shut everybody up'

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman is desperate for Arsene Wenger to silence his critics by winning the Premier League next season.

Arsenal fans have become increasingly divided over whether Wenger should stay at the club after his contract expires next summer, following a disappointing campaign that finished without a trophy.

But Seaman, who was the Arsenal goalkeeper for 13 years and won two league titles under Wenger, backed the Frenchman to prove the nay-sayers wrong.

"For me, Arsene is the best. I've worked with him, I know how good he is. I'm just desperate for him to win it again just to shut everybody up," Seaman told talkSPORT. "I love the guy, I think he's a great guy and I certainly don't want to see him leave."

But Seaman also cautioned that Wenger does need to bring in at least two top-quality players this summer -- both to placate fans and make sure that the team can be a genuine title contender.

"There are still doubts about the team, whether they can push on. If they just buy a couple of spine players, I think then they have a great chance of going that little bit further and winning it," he said.

"There are more and more getting on that bandwagon of 'Wenger Out.' I think the only way you'd be able to stop that is by signing at least two players. But finished article players, not young and up and coming that we don't know what they're like."

Wenger himself has said he would like to bring in three players, with the Gunners in the market for a striker and hopeful of bringing in midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Seaman also warned fans that they should be careful what they wish for, and said he's worried about the club's future if Wenger's contract isn't extended.

"What frightens me is if that [big signings] doesn't happen and then Arsene leaves, where does that leave Arsenal?" he said. "A lot of Arsenal fans think that the base that Arsene has set, that is the standard. But it won't be, it will fall below that if we get a new manager in."
