'Unbelievable' Arsenal display sends title message, says Theo Walcott

Theo Walcott is thrilled with Arsenal's "unbelievable" first-half display against Manchester United on Sunday, and maintains the win sends a message to their Premier League rivals this season.

Arsenal blitzed United with three goals in the first 19 minutes before cruising to a comfortable 3-0 victory at the Emirates at the weekend to go second in the table, And Walcott is confident the impressive performance shows Arsenal are ready to make a title run.

"This result especially will send out a message to the Premier League that we are ready to actually have a go this season," the 26-year-old told The Sun on Monday.

"Some of the football we played in the first half was just unbelievable to be involved in.

"Maybe we eased off a bit in the second half but to be honest we are always happy with a clean sheet, that is crucial for us as well.

"When we have won games before, we have tended to give away sloppy goals, so it was crucial for the whole team to keep a clean sheet today."

The former Southampton youth product stressed the need to repeat Sunday's display in future matches, and remain hungry as the season continues.

"That desire was there, but we need to show it in every single game now, it can't just be one-offs," Walcott said.

"You could sense by the way we started today, it was going to be a good day."

Arsenal teammate Santi Cazorla echoed Walcott's call for consistency on Monday, telling the Arsenal website: "Together we played very well. Three points is very important for us and we need to keep at the same level in the next game.

"They have very good players with [Michael] Carrick, [Juan] Mata and [Wayne] Rooney. We need to play together and in the first half we did very well and this is vital for us.

"We needed to believe after the loss against Olympiakos. We needed to change the mentality and today the team was very compact and focused for the game against a big team. This is the most important thing for the team."
