Arsenal suffer Laurent Koscielny blow as defender ruled out for three weeks

Arsenal have been hit by the news that centre-back Laurent Koscielny could be out for three weeks after suffering an injury in the 5-2 win over Leicester.

Koscielny, 30, has been first-choice for the Gunners but was taken off after a challenge with Jamie Vardy last weekend and manager Arsene Wenger revealed that the Frenchman is set for a spell on the sidelines

He will miss the game against Manchester United this weekend and also France's friendlies against Armenia and Denmark on Oct. 9 and 12 respectively, while he is doubtful for the crucial Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Oct. 20.

Francis Coquelin is fit again, but Arsenal do have issues in midfield with Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta who are also out.

"Laurent Koscielny is out for what looks like three weeks," the Arsenal boss told a news conference. "Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta will also miss out, but Francis Coquelin should be fit."

Per Mertesacker is likely to return to Arsenal's starting XI alongside Gabriel at the heart of the defence.

Wenger was also asked who he thought were favourites for the title this season, with opponents United sitting top of the table.

"At the moment it is tight and difficult to say who will dominate the championship," Wenger added. "You can't come to a conclusion yet.

"The experience [Louis] Van Gaal has in his career, it is no surprise Manchester United are doing well,"
