Arsene Wenger: Gabriel 'completely focused' and ready to play

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that defender Gabriel is focused and ready to play after being sent off in a stormy 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

As the game approached half-time, Chelsea striker Diego Costa appeared to twice rake his hands across Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny's face before chest-bumping him to the ground.

Gabriel then came over to defend his teammate, and he and Costa received yellow cards following a confrontation.

A minute later, the Arsenal centre-back was sent off for flicking a boot at the Chelsea player but had his card rescinded, with Costa handed a three-match ban for violent conduct instead.

Gabriel is still waiting to hear the result of a separate FA charge of improper conduct in relation to Saturday's game -- failing to leave the pitch after being sent off -- and if he is available to face Leicester this weekend, Wenger has full faith in him.

"He was sorry about what had happened," said Wenger. "He is a fighter. In training he was completely focused.

"If there is no punishment we are a bit lucky, if there is a punishment I have to take it.''

Wenger also condemned the disturbances by Gunners' fans following the end of Wednesday night's Capital One Cup victory at Tottenham, and vowed the club will fully cooperate with the authorities to help identify those responsible.

A minority of the travelling supporters in the corner of the South Stand ripped down hoardings of Tottenham club slogans, with police and stewards forced to intervene.

Arsenal are now working with both Tottenham and the authorities, with banning orders a likely outcome for any offenders.

Wenger was disappointed the incident had taken the shine off what was a positive response to a difficult spell following defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and also in a fiery clash at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

"We cooperate completely with the authorities to sort that out. We don't want any violence,'' said Wenger. "I don't really know what happened but we are the disposal of the authorities to help them to sort it out.''
