Jack Wilshere fracture injury rules Arsenal star out for weeks - Wenger

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been ruled out for a "few weeks" after suffering a hairline crack to his left fibula.

Wilshere, 23, sustained the injury in training prior to Arsenal's 1-0 win over Chelsea in Sunday's Community Shield.

"The information you have heard about Jack Wilshere is right," Wenger told Arsenal's official website.

"I had a bad surprise because it is a hairline crack in his fibula that makes him a few weeks out.

"There is minimal damage apart from the bone damage -- there is no damage at all apart from that. It was a collision in training and it was all completely accidental."

The midfielder missed a large part of last season after suffering ankle ligament damage and then undergoing minor surgery to remove some studs on the pins in the bone.

Wilshere, who made 14 Premier League appearances in 2014-15, is now set to miss the beginning to the Gunners' season, which starts on Sunday at home to West Ham.

He could also be absent for England's forthcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland on Sept. 5 and Sept. 8 respectively.

Wenger also gave injury updates on Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and Tomas Rosicky.

The Frenchman said: "We have Welbeck on a progressive recovery and Rosicky on a progressive recovery. He [Welbeck] is not too far away, but he is not ready for Sunday.

"Alexis is back in training but I don't think he will be involved on Sunday, it is a bit early maybe. We have to decide that at the end of the week, but I don't think he will be involved."
