Hat trick hero Theo Walcott part of Arsene Wenger's plans at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has stressed he wants Theo Walcott to stay at Arsenal after the forward scored a hat trick against West Brom.

Walcott, 26, netted three times in the first half while Jack Wilshere was also on target as Arsenal beat West Brom 4-1 on the final day of the 2014-15 Premier League season.

England international Walcott's future at Arsenal has been the subject of speculation, but Wenger insists he wants him to extend his terms which expire in 2016.

Wenger was quoted by Arsenal's Twitter account as saying: "He was sharp against Sunderland and his movement and finishing was good today.

"He's a good goalscorer but he's been out for a year. It takes time to rebuild your confidence. With or without his hat trick, we want him to stay at Arsenal."

Walcott has struggled with a knee injury for the past year, but insists that he is ready to end the campaign on a high.

"You need to be ready when giving the opportunity. I've been out for a year, but I feel great. I've got to thank the manager for showing faith in me," he said.

"I think it's been an up and down campaign. We've had a great run. It came to an end a few weeks ago. We've finished third, and if we win the FA Cup next week, that's a good season.

"But I think that next season, we need to be challenging for the title, with the team we've got."

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain featured as a late substitute for Arsenal, having been sidelined since March with a hamstring injury and Wenger revealed that the winger is on the comeback trail.

He said: "He's not completely ready to start a game but he can play. One more week will help him."

Looking ahead of the May 30's FA Cup final with Aston Villa, Wenger said: "You could see that some players are in good shape for the FA Cup final. There are no new injuries.

"We have played some quality games this year. The first half was of top quality today. We eased off in the second half."
