Theo Walcott: Arsenal have been best team in Europe this calendar year

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has said the Gunners have been the best team in Europe in 2015 and can win next season's Premier League if they keep all their players fit.

Walcott came on as a substitute during Sunday's 0-0 draw with league leaders Chelsea -- a result that all but ended their outside hopes of winning this season's title -- but has yet to agree a new long-term deal.

He has just over a year left on his current contract, and manager Arsene Wenger has said he is confident that his long-term future will be at the Emirates.

Walcott told the club's official website the Arsenal squad was the strongest it had been and added: "There is a lot of competition for places, so everyone seems to lift a gear and play extremely well.

"It makes it a bit more difficult for people to get into the team.

"I think, especially this season, not many people thought we would be challenging for the Premier League.

"But in this calendar year we have been the best team in Europe. It is the strongest the squad has been, and everyone is staying fit as well."

Looking ahead to next season, the 26-year-old England international targeted Premier League glory.

"If we had an injury-free season, I think we could lift the title," he said.

The Gunners, currently third in the table, face Hull on Monday.

They are hopeful that Mikel Arteta will step up training this week after an ankle problem hampered his recovery from a calf injury, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also continuing his rehabilitation.
