Arsenal passing on Fabregas return will be explained one day - Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that the full the details surrounding Cesc Fabregas' failure to re-sign for Arsenal last summer have yet to be revealed.

Fabregas will return to Emirates Stadium for the first time as a Chelsea player on Sunday. The Spanish midfielder made his way through the ranks at Arsenal, and is likely to face a hostile reception as he looks to edge the Blues closer to a Premier League title.

Fabregas left Arsenal to return home to Barcelona in the summer of 2011. But Arsenal had a first option to buy him back if and when he left the Catalan club, and that moment arrived last summer.

The perception was always that it was Wenger who decided not to sign Fabregas, but now the Gunners boss has suggested there is more to this story than he had previously divulged.

"We will have to discuss that one day what happened, with all the terms. It is not as clean as that," Wenger stated when asked if he alone made the call not to bring Fabregas back to Arsenal. "I cannot speak to you about that [reasons] now because that will not help us to win the game on Sunday. This is not the right time."

Wenger's pleas for Arsenal fans to give Fabregas a polite reception as he plays for one of their fiercest London rivals at Emirates Stadium may fall on deaf ears, with many Gunners supporters expressing their frustration at the Spaniard's move to Stamford Bridge last summer.

However, the decision looks set to pay off for Fabregas as he is on course to win his first Premier League title this year, after trying and failing to win the biggest prize in the English game during seven seasons as an Arsenal first team regular.
