Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's Arsenal return 'in the balance' - Arsene Wenger

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returning to action before the end of the season is "in the balance," according to manager Arsene Wenger.

Oxlade-Chamberlain came off with a groin injury during last month's FA Cup quarterfinal win at Manchester United and has not played since.

The 21-year-old suffered injury woes toward the end of last season, missing the final month of Arsenal's season -- including their FA Cup final win over Hull City -- and was then ruled out of the World Cup with a knee injury.

The England international will miss Saturday's semifinal against Reading at Wembley - with the April 26 home game against Chelsea and the trip to Hull City on May 4 also coming too soon -- and Wenger is concerned that the former Southampton player will not be back before the end of the month at the earliest.

"It is in the balance," Wenger told reporters. "The inflammation has not completely cleared. He is on the way, building up and he might join in next week in full training and then we see. He is at least two weeks away."

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta will also miss Saturday's clash against the Royals, but Wenger expects the Spaniard back in training soon afterward.

"He has a little ankle inflammation when he moved out of the last game against Stoke, in the reserves, and since he has not been back in the squad but he should be back next week," Wenger said of the midfielder, who has not played since November.

One long-term absentee who could return at Wembley is Jack Wilshere, although Wenger remains cautious over whether the England midfielder will feature at the weekend.

Jack Wilshere, who has not played since November and required surgery on an ankle injury, will be in Arsenal's squad for the FA Cup semifinal.

"He has improved physically," Wenger said. "You want me to say yes or no will he start but I honestly haven't decided. He is fit enough to be in the squad and he will be in the squad."
