Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger frustrated by Liverpool leveller

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he was disappointed with the manner of Liverpool's stoppage-time equaliser in the sides' 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday.

With the game into nine minutes of added time -- largely due to a head injury suffered by Martin Skrtel in the second half -- Arsenal conceded a corner.

And when Steven Gerrard whipped the ball in, Skrtel bulleted in a header to level the scores for a home side down to 10 men after the sending off of substitute Fabio Borini for two bookings.

The Gunners had been poor in the first half and appeared set to go in at the break a goal down after Philippe Coutinho scored, but Mathieu Debuchy levelled in added time.

Olivier Giroud gave the north Londoners the lead after the break, but they were unable to hold the lead and Wenger told the BBC: "It was maybe a fair result, but we are disappointed to give a goal away with a free header from a corner.

"It was an intense game. We played a little bit with a handbrake on in the first half, and Liverpool played well.

"We lost the ball too quickly in the first half -- when you are not used to something it was frustrating. It was important for us to come back before half time, and 1-1 was a good result [at the break].

"Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho, in the first half, caused us problems, as did Raheem Sterling. We gave them more problems after the break."

However, he praised Giroud for his contribution to the turnaround, adding: "Olivier Giroud was quite sick overnight, and he became more influential in the second half. But in a long period of stoppage time, you have to survive two or three corners and free kicks.

"For their goal, we had plenty of defenders on the pitch. It's disappointing that we didn't even jump. You want everybody to be focused on the corner."

Asked whether the result had been fair, he said: "My first job is to win the games. When you are 2-1 up with minutes to go you want to win -- but objectively 2-2 is a fair result."
