Independiente snub Sergio Aguero offer

Sergio Aguero’s father has claimed that the Manchester City striker tried to buy five players for his former club Independiente.

Sergio Aguero hopes to return to boyhood club Independiente in the future
Serguio Aguero played for Independiente from the age of nine until he left for Atletico at 17.

But Leonel Aguero said that his son was snubbed when Independiente ignored his generous offer, which included paying the players' wages, to fund the club's promotion bid.

Aguero Snr told Argentinian radio Solo Rojo: "Sergio Aguero offered to buy five players and pay their salaries. We asked Carlos Squeo [assistant to manager Miguel Angel Brindisi] for a list of players.

"We don’t know what players they want because no-one called back. Not Squeo, not Brindisi. [There is] No leadership. I feel there is a slight against Sergio."

Aguero, a boyhood Independiente fan, was on their books from the age of nine and became the youngest player in the history of Argentine top-flight football when he debuted for them at 15.

He scored 23 goals in 56 games for them before signing for Atletico Madrid for €23 million in 2006 and moved on to City five years later.

Aguero told ESPN in 2011 that he would like to return to Independiente before he retires.

Independiente have been champions of Argentina 16 times but were relegated for the first time in their 108-year history last season.
