Marcos Rojo is heading to the World Cup this summer looking for "payback" after falling at the final hurdle four years ago.
The Manchester defender was part of the Argentina team that was beaten by Germany in the final in Brazil in 2014. The 28-year-old has been named in the squad for the tournament in Russia that gets underway later this month and is keen to go one step further.
"Obviously, it's a really important thing and a big deal for any Argentinian to wear that shirt," he told Inside United. "We really feel the shirt a lot and we defend our colours.
"We give everything when we are wearing it and we want payback for the way things happened at the last World Cup. We will do everything to give our fans the possibility to celebrate winning the trophy again."
Rojo's performances at the last World Cup convinced Louis van Gaal to spend £16 million to bring him to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon. Though he has endured a frustrating season under Jose Mourinho, starting just four Premier League games in 2018 and was omitted from the squad for the FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.
Still, Rojo insists he will head to Russia confident of Argentina's chances -- despite being drawn in a tough group alongside Nigeria, Croatia and Iceland -- thanks, in part, to having one of the best players in the world as a teammate.
He added: "I think it's three or four times now we've been drawn with Nigeria and it will be a difficult group. Croatia and Iceland are in there too. Hopefully, Lionel Messi will be in form and can do something for us."
