Sergio Aguero says he's fit to play for Argentina despite calf 'tiredness'

Sergio Aguero is ready to play for Argentina on Tuesday night despite injuring his calf only four days ago.

The Manchester City striker was substituted in the 2-2 with Peru on Friday with a slight strain but has declared himself fit for the World Cup qualifier with Paraguay in Cordoba.

Aguero missed the previous two qualifiers against Uruguay and Venezuela but is determined to play his part, particularly with Barcelona's Lionel Messi also missing.

He insists he is fully fit but the final decision on whether he plays will rest with national team boss Edgardo "Paton" Bauza.

"I am doing much better. After the match against Peru I had two days to recover and today I played a bit of football. I am feeling pretty good," he told reporters.

"Luckily, the pain that I felt before the Peru match has gone away -- it was my adductor and I am positive that to protect my adductor I overworked my calf muscle. I am better though.

"We did some studies, everything looked good and I am trying to be as ready for Tuesday as I can be.

"One always wants to play for the national team and I am trying my best. For now, I feel good physically.

"Five minutes into the second half against Peru I started to feel the tiredness in my calf and Paton noticed and he took me out. But I am feeling pretty good.

"The physical shape you only get by playing, not by training. The decision is up to Bauza. But for Tuesday I am available."

While it may be good news for City that Aguero did not seriously hurt himself in the match against Peru, it could be a worry if the injury is aggravated further.

City have a busy schedule coming up with seven games in three weeks and already have injury concerns over Bacary Sagna, Kevin de Bruyne and Vincent Kompnay.

They face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday followed by Barcelona in the Champions League the following Wednesday and Pep Guardiola could do without any other injury setbacks.

However, Aguero says he cannot let his country down even though playing could be a risk.

"Sometimes the travel, the rest, the change of time zones doesn't help. But I am doing good," Aguero said.

"I wanted to play in Peru, to be available and I did everything I could. When you are on the national team you always want to play, but this last time, because I wanted to continue, I finished injured.

"Sometimes you think: 'Why don't I stop?', because then I'm out for a month and a half out I have missed six or seven matches with City.

"But when they call you for the national team you want to play by any means possible. It is like that."
