Carlos Tevez ruled out for Argentina's World Cup qualifier vs. Brazil

Injured Argentina forward Carlos Tevez will join Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero on the sidelines after being ruled out for Thursday's World Cup qualifier against Brazil.

The Boca Juniors star has a sprained left knee and will not be available, the Argentina FA confirmed on Tuesday.

"The forward is carrying a muscle strain and a sprain in his left knee and as a result will not start in either of the two next qualifiers," the federation's statement said.

"Carlitos, who was present yesterday in training but did not carry out any activities, was once more at the Julio Humberto Grondona complex but again did not participate in exercises.

"He left the squad to continue recovery in his club, Boca."

Messi also has a knee injury while Aguero has a torn hamstring, and Pablo Zabaleta and Ezequiel Garay are also injured as Argentina prepare to play Brazil and Colombia.

Few teams have Argentina's depth in attack with Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Angel Correa and Nicolas Gaitan still available.

Argentina earned only one point from their first two World Cup qualifiers and will be under pressure to improve against their rival nation Brazil, who have three points.
