Sergio Aguero injures shoulder as Argentina beat Uruguay

Sergio Aguero is to have tests on a shoulder injury after his goal gave Argentina a hard-fought 1-0 Copa America group win over Uruguay that captain Lionel Messi admitted was "a battle."

Aguero scored the only goal in the game at the Estadio La Portada de La Serena, heading in Javier Pastore's cross in the 55th minute of a tight encounter, during which Argentina coach Gerardo Martino was sent to the stands for protesting a refereeing decision.

The Manchester City attacker was withdrawn in the closing stages, with Juventus' Carlos Tevez the replacement, due to a shoulder problem that now makes him a doubt for their finalĀ Group BĀ game against Jamaica on Saturday in Vina del Mar.

"[Aguero] suffered a blow to his left shoulder," an AFA statement confirmed after the game. "He will undergo tests as a precaution."

Messi told reporters after the game that he and his teammates had met the physical challenge provided by the Uruguayans.

"They set out to play a tough game from the start, where they did not want to play much," Messi said. "Fortunately, Kun's [Aguero's] goal arrived, and after it was a battle, as that is what the game asked for. It was a physical duel, a fight, and we showed we can also play that way. We do not look for it, but we know how to play this way too."

Argentina now have four points from the first two games, having drawn 2-2 in their opener against Paraguay on Saturday. Messi said they remained on track for their initial objective of winning the group.

"The game the other day was a pity, as we ended up drawing," he said. "But what we set out to do was to be top, and now there is the final game to try and end up in that position."
