South Africa player ratings after Seychelles mauling

South Africa secured a country record 6-0 triumph against a woefully out-gunned Seychelles at a wet FNB Stadium on Saturday as their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign fired back into life.

While the scoreline was certainly emphatic, the side also left a number of goals out on the pitch and should have won by a greater margin.

KweséESPN rates the performance of the Bafana Bafana players.

6 - ITUMELENG KHUNE

Tough to rate as he quite literally did not have a save to make in the entire game, his only real piece of action to collect a harmless cross. It is unlikely he has ever had so little to do in an international fixture.

7 - RAMA MPHAHLELE

Came close to a goal in the opening half, but just failed to connect with Sifiso Hlanti's cross and provided a regular outlet down the right, putting in some good crosses.

7 - THULANI HLATSHWAYO

Set up the opening goal when his header across goal was put into his own net by Ronny Hoareau and then netted the second from Aubrey Modiba's corner. Was not tested at all in defence.

6 - BUHLE MKHWANAZI

Barely featured in the game as Seychelles mounted zero meaningful attacks, and he was also usually the last man left in the Bafana half when the team was on attack.

7 - SIFISO HLANTI

Caused a constant threat with his delivery from the left, putting in a number of fine balls. Appeared to tire in the second period once the game was run and did not advance as far forward.

7 - LEBOGANG MABOE

Had a long-range shot that forced a good save from Seychelles goalkeeper Romeo Barra, and showed good strength to set up the third goal for Mothiba.

Was busy throughout, and always looking to provide that link between the midfield and the forwards.

7 - DEAN FURMAN

Was as industrious as ever and showed a physical side in the middle of the park, which led to a yellow card in the second period.

He was replaced with 15 minutes to go by Teboho Mokoena, ending a solid performance. 6 - KAMOHELO MOKOTJO

Set up the final goal for Teboho Mokoena, and looked assured throughout, although he was never really tested by the opposition. A good, solid showing from the Brentford player.

6 - PERCY TAU

Headed just over the crossbar in the opening 10 minutes, and then struck the bar with a free-kick shortly afterwards.

He forced another good save from Barra just before the break, and was then denied again by the keeper early in the second period. He then fired wildly over the bar when he should have hit the target at least.

Finally got his goal on 74 minutes after excellent combination with Lebo Mothiba and was replaced by Lebogang Phiri on 85 minutes.

8 - LEBO MOTHIBA

Had a header saved by Barra, but netted his third goal in as many games with a fine finish into the top corner. He might have had a second when he found himself one-on-one with Barra, but the keeper thrust out a hand to deny the Strasbourg forward.

He set up the fourth goal for Tau with an exquisite touch into the box.

7 - AUBREY MODIBA

He headed over early when he should have hit the target, and provided the assist for Hlatshwayo's goal. Saw his low shot saved by Barra with his last action before being replaced by Dino Ndlovu.

SUBSTITUTES

7 - DINO NDLOVU

Scored his first international goal after coming on with 20 minutes remaining, he will hope this kick-starts his Bafana career. Also had a long-range shot flash just wide.

6 - TEBOHO MOKOENA

Scored his first international goal with virtually the last kick of the game and always looked to get involved in his 15 minutes on the pitch.

LEBOGANG PHIRI

Came on too late to be given a rating.
