Ghana boss Avram Grant wants 1-year ban for Guinea keeper Naby Yattara

Ghana boss Avram Grant has called for Guinea goalkeeper Naby Yattara to be handed a one-year ban for his foul on Asamoah Gyan in the teams' African Nations Cup quarterfinal clash.

Ghana progressed to the semifinals with a 3-0 win but Gyan could miss the meeting with hosts Equatorial Guinea after the challenge from Yattara, who plays for Ligue 2 club AC Arles-Avignon.

The goalkeeper, who had been booked in the first half for shoving Christian Atsu, was shown a red card in injury time for a violent tackle on Gyan and Grant wants to see him face further punishment.

He told the Ghana FA's official website on Tuesday: "What he did is not acceptable in football because he tried to hack Gyan in the last minute of a 3-0 scoreline. It's a bad injury.

"If you hack someone deliberately on the stomach, it means you possibly want to end the career of other player.

"It shows you do not respect the game and you do not respect those who play against you. If a player wants to take another player out of the game completely, it's not acceptable.

"When I saw it again in the replay I saw it was terrible. The goalkeeper deserved a red card in the first half when he pushed Atsu to the ground but he got away with that."

He called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to hit Yattara with a lengthy suspension.

"I think is an opportunity for CAF to show everybody how they protect the players," Grant said. "I hope and am waiting to see what will be the punishment. I think at least one year out of the game completely."

Gyan is set to undergo a scan to determine with he will be able to face Equatorial Guinea on Thursday.
