Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants to follow in footsteps of Drogba, Eto'o

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won the African Footballer of the Year award last month.

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he has taken inspiration from fellow African Footballer of the Year award winners Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o.

Aubameyang, 26, picked up the honour for the first time last month after finding the net over 40 times for Dortmund and Gabon in 2015.

The former St Etienne player, meanwhile, scored his 20th Bundesliga goal of the season in Dortmund's 2-0 victory over Ingolstadt at the weekend. That prompted him to set his sights on matching Germany...

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang confused by African award criticism

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was crowned African Footballer of the Year earlier this month.

Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he has spoken to Andre Ayew but still cannot understand why the Swansea attacker and Manchester City's Yaya Toure reacted badly to him being named African Player of the Year.

Aubameyang, 26, pipped Ayew and Toure to the honour earlier this month after scoring over 40 goals in all competitions for his club and country Gabon in 2015.

The news did not go down well with Toure, 32, who captained the Ivory Coast as they beat Ghana on penalties to...

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can inspire Gabon for generations

ESPN FC's Shaka Hislop delves deeper into the latest transfer rumours.

It seemed almost impossible that someone other than Yaya Toure would be crowned Africa's Player of the Year, but it has happened. Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended Toure's four-year reign on Thursday and became the first Gabonese player to earn the title even though he did not have a continental cup to show for it.

Aubameyang's achievements over the last year have included 18 goals in 17 Bundesliga games for Dortmund (which has made him the league's top-scorer) and 27 goals...

Yaya Toure says his losing player of year brings 'shame to Africa'

The ESPN FC crew weigh in on Yaya Toure's comments regarding the winner of the African Player of the Year.

Yaya Toure has expressed his disappointment in failing to win the African Footballer of the Year by saying the award's criteria bring "shame to Africa."

The Manchester City midfielder finished second to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on Thursday night, ending his run of four straight awards from the Confederation of African Football.

But Toure felt this year's result should have gone his way after his Ivory Coast side triumphed at the African Nations Cup, while Aubameyang's...

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang edges Yaya Toure as African player of year

ESPN FC's Shaka Hislop delves deeper into the latest transfer rumours.

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was named African Footballer of the Year over Manchester City's Yaya Toure on Thursday night.

The result ends a streak of four consecutive awards from the Confederation of African Football for the Ivorian Toure, who had won every year since 2011.

Gabon international Aubameyang, who finished second to Toure a year ago, earned 143 points this time, barely edging runner-up Toure's 136 in CAF's rankings.
