Ivory Coast's African Cup hero Boubacar Barry retires

Africa Cup of Nations winners Ivory Coast returned home with the trophy after beating Ghana in the final on penalties.
Ivory Coast secured their second African Nations Cup triumph with a 9-8 penalty shootout victory over Ghana in Sunday's finale in Bata.

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast -- Ivory Coast goalkeeper and African Nations Cup star Boubacar Barry announced on Tuesday he is retiring from international football.

The 35-year-old issued a statement and posted a video on his Facebook site where he explains his decision.

Guinea minister: 'Not possible' to move African Nations Cup 2023 to June

Africa Cup of Nations winners Ivory Coast returned home with the trophy after beating Ghana in the final on penalties.

The African Nations Cup (ANC) finals in 2023 will not be switched to the summer to accommodate the Qatar World Cup, Guinea sports minister Domani Dore has said.

As the World Cup is set to be played in November/December, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke insisted last week that the 2023 edition of the ANC would be pushed back six months from its usual January date to June.

Valcke claimed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had agreed to move the tournament, but Dore told...

African Nations Cup 2023 in Guinea to move to June - Jerome Valcke

Ivory Coast claimed the 2015 version of the African Nations Cup.

DOHA, Qatar -- The 2023 African Nations Cup (ANC) in Guinea will move from January to June because of FIFA's plan to switch the 2022 World Cup dates to November-December, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said on Wednesday.

Valcke claimed the switch was a concession to clubs who don't want to lose their African players for back-to-back tournaments.

The 2022 World Cup is set to finish in late December and the ANC had been scheduled to start in mid-January 2023.

Tunisia launch CAS appeal over 2017 African Nations Cup ban threat date

Host nation Equatorial Guinea are through to the semifinals of the African Nations Cup after a controversial 2-1 win over Tunisia in Bata.

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has gone to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to appeal against a potential African Nations Cup (ANC) ban.

Tunisia were knocked out of this year's tournament by hosts Equatorial Guinea at the quarterfinal stage, a game that ended in ugly scenes as Mauritian referee Rajindraparsad Seechurn was angrily confronted by Tunisia players.

Seechurn had awarded a controversial penalty against Tunisia in stoppage-time, allowing Equatorial Guinea to equalise and...

Morocco take African Nations Cup ban, fine to Court of Arbitration for Sport

Morocco have been banned for the next two Africa Cup of Nations after pulling out of hosting the 2015 tournament.

Morocco have appealed against sanctions levied by the African Football Confederation following the decision to withdraw from hosting this year's African Nations Cup.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FMRF) announced in November that it would not be going ahead with the tournament which started in January because of fears over the ongoing Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Equatorial Guinea eventually stepped in as replacement hosts but CAF came down hard on the Moroccan governing body, banning...
