Atak Lual's second-half goal gave South Sudan their first ever competitive victory as the world's newest nation beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in African Nations Cup qualifying Group C on Saturday.
South Sudan's success came three years after they were allowed to play international football, and boosts their chances of an even bigger shock: qualifying for the continent's top tournament in 2017.
Lual scored in the 52nd minute in Juba to stun Equatorial Guinea, semifinalists at the African Cup they hosted earlier this year who are now bottom of the group.
The win for South Sudan, against a team ranked over 100 places higher than them, delighted home fans in the capital. Lual's winner put the South Sudanese level on points with group leaders Mali, who play their next game against Benin on Sunday.
Nigeria were held to a 0-0 draw by Tanzania in Group G. Sunday Oliseh's first game in charge of the Super Eagles was disappointing as the hosts were the more dangerous, forcing Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme into a couple of fine saves to keep the game scoreless.
Mrisho Ngasa went close in the first half and Ikeme also kept out Mbwana Samatta's free kick.
Ngasa headed wide when he should have done better after the break, while Ikeme was at his best to deny Thomas Ulimwengu in the final third. However, the Taifa Stars could not break through as Ikeme saved again in the final minute and Nigeria will take a point which keeps them top of the group.
Ghana needed an 85th-minute free kick winner from Wakaso Mubarak to overcome second-placed Rwanda on the road, and make it two wins from their two games in Group H.

Ghana were run close by the Rwandans, realising the fears of coach Avram Grant who criticised the Ghanaian government in the buildup to this game for committing his squad to a friendly earlier this week.
A David Zulu red card doomed South Africa in a 3-1 defeat at Mauritania.
The hosts were already ahead on an early Aly Abeid goal when Zulu was sent off six minutes after the break.
Thamsanqa Gabuza was later able to equalise, but the disadvantage proved too much as Boubacar Beyguili and Moulaye Ahmed scored late goals to seal the win in Group M.
Senegal took advantage of a slip by Niger to go three points clear in Group K.
West Ham's Cheikhou Kouyate and Southampton's Sadio Mane got on the scoresheet to give them a 2-0 win over Namibia, while in the same group, Niger lost 2-0 to Burundi thanks to goals from Fiston Abdul Razak and Papy Faty.
Liberia celebrated their first game at home since being allowed to host again after the Ebola outbreak by beating Tunisia 1-0, with Liberian fans braving heavy rain in Monrovia to welcome their team back.
In Group E, Ferebory Dore scored four times to carry Congo to a 4-2 lead away to Guinea-Bissau, who got two goals from Zezinho Lopes.
Uganda made it two wins from two as Tonny Mawejje struck to give them a 1-0 win over Comoros in Group D.
Also in Group D, Botswana beat 2013 African Cup runners-up Burkina Faso 1-0 thanks to a goal from Joel Mogorilosi to get their qualification hopes back on track.
Morocco went three points clear in Group F with a convincing 3-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe. Nordin Amrabat opened the scoring before Youssef El Arabi and Nabil Dirar netted before half-time to complete the scoring in eight minutes.
Seychelles held Group J leaders Ethiopia to an impressive 1-1 draw to claim their first point of the campaign.
Nelson Laurence netted a 24th minute penalty to put the hosts ahead, but Tesfaye Seyoum netted for Ethiopa just after the break to save a draw.
