Farouk Miya scored twice to give Uganda a 2-0 win over Lesotho in Tuesday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Maseru.

Miya outpaced the hosts' backline and unleashed a fierce shot to open the scoring in the sixth minute, and then doubled the visitors' tally 29 minutes late with a free kick.

The win takes Uganda up to top spot in Group on 10 points, five ahead of second-placed Tanzania following their 2-0 victory over Cape Verde earlier on Tuesday.

The islanders, in third on four points, are two ahead of bottom-placed Lesotho.

Sebastien Desabre's Cranes need just one point from their final two qualifiers to progress, and will feel confident after a convincing showing against the Crocodiles.

They asserted themselves from the off, and quickly took the advantage when Miya - who netted against Lesotho on Saturday - opened the scoring.

Allan Kateregga also had his goalbound shot cleared off the line by a Lesotho defender Mafa Moremoholo, while at the other end, Denis Onyango was called upon to deny Basia Makepe and Tumelo Khutlang.

Tanzania are away at Lesotho next month, while Uganda host Cape Verde.
