Hulk faces fitness test ahead of Shanghai SIPG's ACL clash with Urawa

Hulk will undergo a late fitness test after travelling to Japan with the rest of the Shanghai SIPG squad for their Asian Champions League clash with Urawa Red Diamonds on Tuesday.

The former Porto striker suffered a knee injury in SIPG's 2-1 win over Shandong Luneng on Friday in the Chinese Super League, and was replaced in the second half having earlier given his side the lead.

SIPG were not expected to risk Hulk's fitness, but he has joined the travelling party, and coach Andre Villas-Boas will decide on the 30-year-old's involvement after the club's final training session on Monday evening.

"The game tomorrow will be the most difficult one in our Asian Champions League group stage," Villas-Boas said. "We have to play at our best if we want to qualify. Our opponents are a very strong side, and we are playing away.

"There is no big problem with Hulk's left knee, luckily. We will observe him in training, and then decide if he is going to play or not."

Victory would secure SIPG a place in the knockout stage of the competition for the second season in a row while a win coupled with Western Sydney Wanderers' failure to defeat FC Seoul would confirm their status as group winners.

Villas-Boas' team have won all three of the Asian Champions League group matches so far, including a 3-2 success over Urawa in China last month, but the former Chelsea coach will not underestimate the Japanese side's capabilities.

"Urawa are good at attacking," he said. "They have various attacking combinations and all of them are very powerful. Their attacking style is also very entertaining, thanks to their head coach's excellent job. He has insisted on attacking football and he made it very successful.

"We have already scored 20 goals this season and, in the meantime, our defence has improved after our adjustments. Our coaching group has done a good job. We are doing well in every way."
