Shanghai SIPG coach Sven-Goran Eriksson: We can reach ACL semifinals

Sven-Goran Eriksson believes his Shanghai SIPG side can book a place in the semifinals of the Asian Champions League on Tuesday despite being without striker Elkeson through suspension.

Elkeson -- who won the trophy with Guangzhou Evergrande in 2013 and 2015 -- misses the quarterfinal second leg at South Korea's Jeonbuk Motors after picking up a second yellow card of the campaign during the 0-0 draw in China last month.

He joins fellow South American and former Guangzhou star Dario Conca on the sidelines, with Conca out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

But former England coach Eriksson said: "We are in good shape. We have been training well and the atmosphere in the team is good. Elkeson is obviously a key player for us, but we have a strong squad.

"We know that Jeonbuk are a strong team, but I think that if we play to our best then we can go through to the semifinal. I am proud that we reached the quarterfinal, but we want to go further."

Brazilian forward Hulk will be available to make his debut in the competition after playing for the full 90 minutes and scoring both goals in the 2-2 Chinese Super League draw with Beijing Guoan on Saturday.

"We may have drawn but we played well," Eriksson said. "We can take confidence from that game, and I think we are a more confident team now than we were ahead of the first leg.

"If we can play with confidence, we can win."

He said the opening goal against Jeonbuk, the reigning Korean champions, would be important and added: "If we perform as we know we can, then we can win.

"We know all about Jeonbuk from the first game. The fact that they have been strong at home is not important. We are ready for the game and looking forward to it."
