Marcello Lippi cops one match ban

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Italian coach Marcello Lippi has been provisionally suspended for one match for confronting a referee Guangzhou Evergrande's 1-0 loss in Sydney to the Western Sydney Wanderers in the Asian Champions League quarterfinals.

Lippi, who coached Italy to the World Cup title in 2006, will be banned from sitting in the dugout during Guangzhou's home leg of the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Ding jailed for referee prostitute bribes

Eric Ding Si Yang is facing a stretch behind bars.

Singaporean businessman Eric Ding Si Yang has been jailed for three years after being found guilty of bribing three Lebanese referees to fix a game.

Ding, 32, was sentenced on Thursday for hiring prostitutes for match officials in return for fixing the result of an AFC Cup game; he is expected to appeal both the conviction and the sentence.
