Shanghai SIPG's Sun Xiang a doubt ahead of Asian Champions League tie

Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is seeking to lead Shanghai SIPG to the Chinese Super League title.
Sven-Goran Eriksson was appointed Shanghai SIPG boss in 2014.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is hoping captain Sun Xiang can shake off a cold to lead Shanghai SIPG into their Asian Champions League meeting with Jeonbuk Motors on Tuesday as the former England coach goes into the first leg without the services of South American duo Hulk and Dario Conca.

Argentinian Conca, a winner of the continental title with Guangzhou Evergrande in 2013, sustained a knee injury in Saturday's 2-1 win over Shijiazhuang Everbright in the Chinese Super League while Hulk has only featured...

Egypt struggling to complete on the international and domestic stage

Hector Cuper has taken over theĀ Egypt national team.

The spotlight of success around Egyptian football used to be bright, but now the light is a lot dimmer and flickers on and off as the country comes to grips with a new dispensation.

Egypt used to be at the cusp of the African game; now while they are still up among the top contenders, failure is becoming alarmingly more regular.

Al Ahly slipped disappointingly out of the CAF Champions League race at the weekend in the latest setback for the country who only months ago were celebrating a renaissance...

Egypt powerhouse Al Ahly revive their African Champions League campaign

Al Ahly's hopes of African Champions League progression remain high with two matches to go.

On the two previous occasions that Al Ahly of Egypt started the group competition in the African Champions League with successive defeats, they failed to advance to the semifinals.

But this year the Egyptian giants have revived their campaign and turned around their fortunes against difficult odds.

With two matches left to go in Group A, the Cairo club must win them both but their chances are now infinitely better than just weeks ago, after they had picked up just a single point from their opening...

A-League facing transfer competition from emerging Asian comps - Muscat

ESPN FC's Jason Dasey and P.J. Roberts discuss the likelihood of Tim Cahill and other Socceroos heading to the A-League.
ESPN FC's Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts address the rumours surrounding Tim Cahill and if a move back to Australia is imminent.

Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has admitted that it is becoming harder for A-League clubs to lure players to the league with the rise of other Asian competitions.

Emerging leagues in Southeast Asia, the runaway growth of the Chinese Super League and an upturn in finances in Europe are giving A-League coaches headaches as they look to build their squads for the season ahead.

The Victory's Alan Baro and Western Sydney trio Bruno Pinatares, Jumpei Kusukami and Aritz Borda are among the few players...

AFC bans two Thai referees for life after match-fixing

Chaiya Mahapab is confronted by Haiti players during a friendly against South Korea in 2013.

The Asian Football Confederation has banned two referees from Thailand for life for match-fixing.

The AFC disciplinary committee said on Friday that following a two-day meeting, Thanom Borikut and Chaiya Mahapab were found guilty of influencing the results of four matches each in a "manner contrary to sporting ethics."

It said the violations by Thanom related to four matches in 2013 and 2014, while Chaiya's ban was for four matches in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The AFC said "in order to not prejudice...
