Guangzhou Evergrande anger sponsors with logo switch for AFC CL final

Guangzhou Evergrande won their second AFC Champions League title with a 1-0 aggregate win over Al Ahli.

AFC Champions League winners Guangzhou Evergrande will face legal action from the car company that sponsors their shirts after a last-minute kit change ahead of last Saturday's final.

The Chinese Super League club defeated Al Ahli of the UAE 1-0, but Guangzhou's red jerseys were labelled with the Chinese name of Evergrande Life, an insurance subsidiary of one of the club's co-owners, rather than the logo of paid sponsors Dongfeng Nissan.

The car company paid more than 100 million yuan ($16 million)...

Big Phil's Asian champions Evergrande target Club World Cup

Guangzhou Evergrande won their second AFC Champions League title with a 1-0 aggregate win over Al Ahli.

It was a chilly November night in the Syrian city of Homs when Jeonbuk Motors won the 2006 Asian Champions League. One of the questions asked of coach Choi Kang-hee was regarding his next target. This most taciturn of tacticians, who never smiled in public, actually did and said that their new goal was the world championship. All knew he was joking.

Nine years on, Guangzhou Evergrande and Luiz Felipe Scolari are deadly serious about lifting the FIFA Club World Cup after defeating Al Ahli of Dubai...

Elkeson gives Guangzhou Evergrande second AFC Champions League win

Elkeson's winner gave Guangzhou Evergrande their second ACL title in three years.

A moment of magic from Brazilian striker Elkeson gave Guangzhou Evergrande a 1-0 win over Al Ahli on Saturday evening and a second AFC Champions League title in three years.

After over 140 minutes of goalless action between the champions of China and the United Arab Emirates, the Brazilian brought over 50,000 fans in the Tianhe Stadium in Guangzhou to their feet early in the second half. The goal also gives Luiz Felipe Scolari the continental title to add to the Chinese Super League prize that...

Al Ahli and Cosmin Olaroiu halfway to dream win vs. Guangzhou Evergrande

Al Ahli manager Cosmin Olaroiu will be happy to head into the ACL second leg even with favourites Evergrande.

In 1986, Cosmin Olaroiu was 16 and watching in Romania as Steaua Bucharest went to Spain to defeat Barcelona in the European Cup final. It wasn't pretty but it was effective. A penalty shootout followed a goalless draw with the highly-fancied blaugrana missing all four. If the second leg of the 2015 Asian Champions League follows the first -- which ended in stalemate on Saturday -- it won't be much of a spectacle but Olaroiu and his Al Ahli team will be in with a real shout of following the 29-year-old...
