Bournemouth's Callum Wilson ruled out for six months with knee injury

Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson will be sidelined for at least six months after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Wilson, 23, who has hit five Premier League goals this season, had to be stretchered off during Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Stoke after sustaining the injury.

Scans showed the severity of the problem and Wilson will now be operated on next week before beginning his rehabilitation.

"It's very disappointing for Callum, after what has been an exceptional start to the season, but I am sure he will come back fitter and stronger,'' Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the club's official website.

"Callum is the type of character who won't be fazed by such a setback, and I am sure he will turn this experience into a positive in the long run.

"As I have said many times before though, this kind of setback offers others the opportunity to step up to the plate, show everybody what they can do and make a real impact at this level.''

The loss of Wilson is the latest blow for Bournemouth, with club record signing Tyrone Mings -- who was recruited for £8 million from Ipswich over the summer -- due to miss the remainder of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while fellow new arrival Max Gradel is sidelined for the next six months with the same injury.
