Marco Kurz rues Adelaide United's inability to take their chances

Adelaide United coach Marco Kurz said the Reds had enough chances to salvage something from the 2-0 loss to Melbourne City at Coopers Stadium on Saturday night.

For the fourth consecutive A-League match United conceded inside the opening quarter hour when Ross McCormack slotted a penalty on 11 minutes.

Five minutes later and the Reds were 2-0 down, but they did have some hope heading into the final 30 minutes when City's Osama Malik was given his marching orders after a second bookable offence.

Despite dominating possession, the Reds squandered a host of chances in their first loss of the campaign with the best opportunity put wide from inside the area by Nikola Mileusnic.

"We have enough chances but we scored no goal," Kurz said.

"The game was good, we waited for the right moments. We had a lot of chances."

United were forced to field a depleted squad after a raft of injuries to first choice players including Johan Absalonsen, Vince Lia, Ersan Gulum, and Taylor Regan, while Baba Diawara was a late withdrawal.

But, Kurz said important games were crucial for his young players in assisting their development and gaining valuable experience.

"For me it's good that the young players play in this game and they get experience," he said.

"It's very good; I'm positive, I'm not negative."

The Reds will head to Perth for a clash against the Glory on Saturday night marking their fourth game in 16 days.

But, Kurz said his players are in excellent condition and will be up to the task.

"You see we have now [played] the third game in five or six days," he said.

"And the team is in good shape. They can play good, they can run, they are not tired."

City Coach Warren Joyce played down his side's perfect start to the season which has seen them record four consecutive wins.

"There's still a long way to go and things we've got to improve on and get better at," he said.

"It's early in the season, there's nothing done yet.

"We just want to keep working and progressing and seeing if we can get better every day."
