Isaias sidelined as Adelaide United approaches 'fresh start' in ACL

Adelaide United's midfield linchpin Isaias has been ruled out of Wednesday night's Asian Champions League fixture against Japanese powerhouse Gamba Osaka.

Isaias suffered a knee injury in Adelaide's A-League win against Newcastle on Friday night and will be sidelined for about a month.

Adelaide coach Guillermo Amor says Isaias can't be replaced by another player for the Asian competition in another blow for the Reds, who are also missing captain and goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic because of a shoulder injury.

Adelaide languish in last spot on the domestic table but defender Tarek Elrich says the ACL is a new opportunity for the Reds.

"We go out there knowing if we stick to the task and play as physical as we can, that we can get a result," Elrich told reporters on Tuesday.

"For us, it's a fresh start. It's another competition, but in saying that we don't give up on the A-League."

Adelaide will unveil recently-signed Senegalese striker Baba against Gamba Osaka while South Korean midfielder Kim Jae-Sung will also play after making his A-League debut from the bench last weekend.

Gamba Osaka could boast four Japanese internationals in their starting team but are in the midst of their preseason, which Elrich hoped would offer Adelaide an advantage.

"They're early on in their preseason, obviously with us being fit and three-quarters through our own season, we expect them to probably slow down the game," he said,

"We're well aware that if they get their chance and score real early, then they're going to try and take the sting out of the game.

"But they have good individuals. They don't need a six-month preseason to rock up."
