Arsenal's Jack Wilshere not a typical English player - Gennaro Gattuso

AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso believes Jack Wilshere would be a good fit for his or any other Italian side amid reports of interest in the Arsenal midfielder from Juventus.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and Juve, who have forged a reputation for picking up big-name free transfers and are widely expected to win the race to sign Liverpool's Emre Can in a similar move in July, are reported to be keeping an eye on developments in north London.

Speaking ahead of his side's Europa League last-16 clash with Arsenal at the Emirates on Thursday night, Gattuso admitted that he too has his eye on the English midfielder, who he believes would shine in Serie A.

"I remember him from when I came here for a tournament in 2012-13," Gattuso said at a news conference. "He's a lad who is decent on the ball and has a low centre of gravity. He can play just off the forwards or even deep in the midfield.

"He's a lad who's had some physical issues in the past, but he's talented. He's a player I've always admired for his quality. He's a bit of an exception: He has the aggression of an Englishman combined with the quality of a Spaniard."

Gattuso's Milan will be looking to end Wilshere's participation in the Europa League on Thursday night, and the former Milan midfielder said his side have "nothing to lose" after going down 2-0 at San Siro a week ago.

The Serie A club have a mountain to climb if they are to continue a Europa League campaign which commenced back in July, in the third qualifying round, but Gattuso insists they will still give it a go at the Emirates.

"I started a week ago to say that we were not coming here for a holiday," he said at a news conference. "We know it's going to be a tough game against a side who caused us problems tactically and physically at San Siro in the first half, but we're going to try to play a different game.

"We've got nothing to lose tomorrow. We can play with a great deal of tranquillity, so let's just see. We are a bit tired, but we're proud to be playing in such an iconic stadium and we have a duty to give it a go because of the importance of the shirts we are wearing."

Milan's Serie A rivals Juventus travelled to London last week and beat Arsenal's rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League. That game is an example former Liverpool attacking midfielder Suso says will serve the Rossoneri well on Thursday night.

"We can take inspiration from them, because they never give up," he said. "Many thought that Tottenham were going to do it, but probably they didn't know Juventus, who have plenty of players who can do damage.

"To be honest, I always thought Juve were going to qualify easily. We've got to play with the same mentality tomorrow. It's going to be a really attractive game and we need to carry on improving and try to win it."
